Knowing God

Know God

We don’t all recognize it at first, and that is okay. But we all have it – the innate need to know God. For some, it’s an emptiness, for others, it’s a need to excel, or to acquire things, and for some it’s simply a restlessness of continually searching but never finding. Still for others, there isn’t a perception that something is missing at all, at least right now.

There is good news. Jesus said He came to “seek and to save” (Luke 19:10 KJV). Who is He seeking – the church goer? The successful? The deserving? The good? No, He came to seek and to save the lost, and that is good news. We have all been lost, yes, all of us, and that means Jesus is seeking us all. Not based on who we are, or what we do, or where we live. Right now, whether you know it or not, if you are lost, Jesus is seeking you.

It’s simple really, we are all born the same, “For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23 KJV). God is perfect and glorious, and we are not, so we are lost, separated from God. There is a name for this shortcoming, it’s called sin. It’s part of all our nature, and it shows itself in all the ways we fall short of God’s glory. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23 KJV). It may seem like you haven’t done anything wrong, but the truth is that no one could ever claim to be perfect, like God. No amount of good deeds can make up for it. Jesus challenges our misguided thinking “…there is none good but one, that is, God ” (Mark 10:18 KJV). His point was simply that only God, who is perfect, can determine what is good.

We all start out being spiritually dead, or lost. God loves us, and He knows that we are lost. His integrity requires that the sin must be paid for. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1 KJV). God did the most amazing thing – He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price – “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus” (Romans 6:23 KJV). Jesus died on the cross as payment for all sin. This payment is known to be sufficient for everyone, because three days later, He arose from the grave.

A gift, freely given so that we don’t have to pay the price, the awful price “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14 KJV). So Jesus is seeking everyone who has not accepted this gift He has to offer. All you have to do is accept His gift. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way *, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.” (John 14:6-7 KJV).

Accepting Jesus, just as you are, is all that is needed. No one is too far lost to be saved. There are no sins too big or too dark. There is only unending grace and love. There is no reason to wait, He is there, waiting for you now.

“Jesus, I believe that you are God. I confess to you now that I have sinned against You. I ask Your forgiveness, and I accept You as my Savior. Thank You for dying on the cross for me.”

If you prayed a prayer like the one above, then you have taken the first step to knowing God. Yes – the Creator of the universe wants to know you. Heaven is rejoicing at your salvation. Today is the first day of the rest of your life with God. Amen!
