Pathways is a group modeled after the analogy of life as a series of journeys. This is not the same journey that you would be on if you traveled on a highway. It’s about the simple inner journey that is walked not driven, measured in steps not miles.
You don’t know exactly where this path is leading, or what you may encounter. And in the end, the destination isn’t really the point. It’s the steps along the way that count, the series of moments where you are engaged with this group as you read God’s Word. You will struggle with it, be excited about it, engrossed in it, challenged by it, and oftentimes in awe of it. It’s really no different than an actual path where you anticipate what lies beyond the bend, wade through streams, climb hills and trees, and be mesmerized by nature’s display.
Hopefully, you will read yourself into the bible, and in so doing, you’ll let God’s Word work itself out through you into this world He so selflessly loves.
Jhn 14:4 KJV – 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
what is the overall purpose?
overarching goal of laying the foundation of a new group here at 2BC (you are the key to this)
read yourself into the bible, and integrate the bible into your life (the one thing I want to pass on to you)
what is it like?
intended to be a easy place to be and a safe place to engage
we need to all understand that we are here in God’s house, studying God’s Word – this is our context, let it guide you in questions you ask and comments you make and things you discuss
we are all at different points in our spiritual growth – this is ok. At times we may go too fast or too deep or whatever. Just hang in there. Other times we may go too slow or too shallow – just hang in there.
how is it connected to the bible? we are an ekklesia just like the early disciples
Act 1:8-14 KJV – 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. 12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas [the brother] of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
- In case you think they were all theologians and had it all figured out … read LK 24
- they had a lot to make sense of… their journey just starting and the first steps along their pathway started from that upper room
- ekklesia: called out gathering
- you don’t just go out to the whole world all at once… it’s a step at a time, and a group those steps forms a path…
- path starts with one
- then others see it and use it and it becomes a road and others use it and it becomes a highway
